In February, I decided to start playing guitar again. I used to play the guitar. I started at 6th grade.

Creativity: As I started to develop my skill in playing the guitar, I learned new songs, musical notes. And sometimes tried to create my own music.

1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth: I identified my strength as being able to play an instrument, guitar. I improved that skill as I started to play my old musical notes and watch videos.

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: I get nervous that I started to play guitar and started to work on it again. Therefore, I started very determined for this process. I started to play it in every leisure time.

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: I showed commitment as I play guitar every day.

Music and Dance Night

MUSIC & DANCE NIGHT

I take a part in our school's traditional ''Music and Dance Night''. Our teachers asked me to prepare a dance in a group of six with two kinds of music which are ''One_Ane Brun'' and ''Ötme Bülbül''. Also, they asked me to prepare a solo dance with a music ''Olmasa Mektubun''.

The intended aim for this 'Music and Dance Night'' was collecting donations for cancerous children beside preparing a show for parents. I'm proud that I took part in such a good and professional organization.

Getting ready for that show took my two months. In the first month, I worked to find the best dancers in my school. Then, I had problems like some of them told me that they won't come to Istanbul on 13th of June. Therefore, I started to look for other dancers and I took a while for me.

At last, I found my dance group and I started to stay at school and create a choreography for the music that had given to us. It didn't take me long to prepare a choreography but I had to find a choreography that everyone in my group would be able to do. Also, there had to be a movement that should show the stage full and energetic. After I created choreographies, I call my dance group and we started to work on. As our music performed by the school choir, we recognized some changes in music that effects our choreography. As there wasn't much time to make changes, even we get nervous at first, we come through that unlucky situation.

Through this organization, I feel that I really developed myself. If we look at this development from the perspective of IB student;

IB Learner Profile:

Thinkers: I used my critical thinking in unexpected situations as I lost some of my dancers through getting ready for the big night. Also, we made quick, professional changes when the music wasn't as we prepared our choreography. Besides critical thinking, I used my creative thinking through preparing a choreography.

Communicators: The most important part of being a leader of a group is being good at communication. I had a good, professional communication with both my teachers and friends. Therefore, things went fast and easy. We tried our best to understand each side in bad situations but everything resulted very great. I collaborated effectively by listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

Principled: I acted with integrity and honesty with a strong sense of fairness and justice. I was fair between my dancers. I listened to all their recommendations and problems. Also, I tried to put them in front of the dance to be fair.

Open-minded: The music that I had my solo dance was aiming to unite two continent (Greek and Turkey). It was something special for me in a way I was a metaphor of letter that has a specialty of unite two sides.

Caring: I show empathy, compassion, and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Our school provided us a chance to show commitment in social responsibility project. Collected donation for cancer children (KAÇUV).

Balanced: We showed respect for our physical and emotional differences, created our choreography according to that situation.

Reflective: We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

CAS Learning Outcomes

1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

As I chosen to be a leader of that dance group, I was able to bring together the dancers as I found them and teach two choreographies to them. Even we had some problems about meeting at the dance room because of the exams or deadlines of the homework but we find out a way after a talk. I feel that I developed myself in order to be able to talk and lead a group.
The main of that Music and Dance Night was to help cancerous children. Our school gave us a great chance to join that organization. According to that two music given to me in order to find a group and teach the choreography that I had done.

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
At some point, I become desperate about creating the choreography and teaching that dance choreography to the dance group. Because I wanted everything to be perfect as I was chosen as a leader and the Music and Dance Night is a big and traditional event at our school. I pushed myself and made a good, serious talk and we started our dance. I developed my leadership. At least we had a great choreography and a great show. We achieved our aim.

3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
As our school gave us a chance in order to help the social responsibility project about collecting donations cancerous children in the school show, we showed a commitment as taking place in the Music and Dance Night by dancing.

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
We take a action in raising awareness and collecting donation for cancerous children. Also, for that, I spent my 3 weeks in order to create a good choreography and be able to synchronize.

Some movements in my choreography were complicated and hard to do. Therefore, as we worked collaboratively, we find new movements that everyone was able to do and agreed to it.

The aim of the Music and Dance Night was to raise awareness and collect donation for cancerous children. Therefore, as we take place in such an organization, we showed our awareness for cancerous children.

The fact that motivates us to dance and do the best that we can be the reason there we are working for cancerous children.

Ballet stage

I have been doing ballet for 4 years-old. After fourteen years I had a chance to become a ballet teacher as I got my certificate from MEB and done my compulsory practical training. As I'm an IB student, I spent my most of time with school works but when they call me to become more professional about being a teacher I accepted it. I love ballet and children. Therefore, I want to give my passion to them and make them love ballet as they remember me.
In the first month, we spent our time to acclimatize children to the new environment. As I also experienced when I was four, I know how everything looks huge and scary for the first time. Everything seems impossible but as time passes you have new friends and also your teachers become your best friend. As time passes we start our main posses in ballet and try them to teach ballet in a fun way with games. (learning outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.) I learned how to deal with a child and how to understand things from her/his perspective. It was hard for the first time, but I communicated very well in a very short time. I'm something like friend/teacher to them. Actually, this was the exact thing that I wanted from the beginning because I don't want the dictatorship in class. I know how bad it is for my teachers at my ballet school. (Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.)  I have been going to ballet since the first semester of school on Friday at least for three hours. (Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experiences.)

Creativity

As we are planning and organizing new games in order to teach ballet in a fun way. Also, we are preparing a choreography for them in order to give them stage experience and show how beautiful it is to be applauded for your talent.

Activity

I go to ballet every Friday in order to teach ballet and prepare them to stage.

CAS Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. As I lead a class I developed my teaching skills and also leadership. Now, I'm able to lead a group even in a small age. As I'm a teacher as their friend it didn't become something hard to be a teacher for me.

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. As the students that I have been in the age gap between 4 to 5, sometimes it became hard to be a teacher and make them do the same thing I do.  But as I stay calm and friendly, I overcome these unbalanced relationships in the class and make them obey the rules of ballet.

3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. From the beginning of the year, everything that we were going to do that year was determined already. We just obey and follow the programme that has already determined. We start with small stretches, we teach what is really a ballet and create a choreography in order to put them on the stage in order to feel like a real ballerina. We motivate them and lead them to follow their dreams.

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

I went to the ballet course every Friday after school for three hours.

5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
As I get advice and worked collaboratively with the teachers of the Academy, I developed myself. By the help of my ballet teachers, I had a chance to see what is an ideal ballet teacher.
